With Microsoft’s next-gen console, the Xbox Series X, due to make its global debut in November you might be wondering what games are coming? Well, we’ve got you covered. The entire world in your hands. Battlefield 3.

Battlefield 3’s graphics engine is incredible, its multiplayer addictive. The game’s online service/matchmaking system is a mixed bag. Play on the PC, however, and you will need to use Battlelog, a browser-based social.

Teasing gameplay footage, pimping of the Frostbite 2 tech, and lots of video with distorted bass were common themes in the past few months. However, it also comes with its fair share of critics. It is said that its single player is weak and uninspiring; using Battlelog is an awkward experience; and the initial server downtime hurt early multiplayer gamers. I dove into the single-player campaign first with a heart full of dread. It was uninspired, short, and disjointed, stealing bits from other games and mixing them together into a papier-mache of story and action.

There are quite a few elements that were appropriated from other franchises. But it was still fun. Playing as the GRU operative with my two fellow Russian spec-ops comrades was a treat, running and gunning through the levels with plenty of close quarters combat.

Enlisted: I have tried countless times to get CO-OP working and it just doesn’t work, after starting a public matchmaking, the game loads up, but soon after it shortly exits on its own back to desktop, without ever presenting anything but the LOADING icon on the bottom right. And I sure as hell doubt there’s going to be a fix for it.

Between the years of , he studied computer science, computer engineering, and creative programming at university. Worked for two and half years at Unique Development Studios AB as a level designer and artist, shipped three games. Joined DICE in as a producer, and has been senior or executive producer for the Battlefield series over the years. Softly spoken and ridiculously articulate, Karl Magnus Troedsson is a calming interviewee.

Underneath the calm surface, though, is a master of destruction. Karl is the vice president and general manager at Digital Illusions, CE, or DICE, the developers behind the building-collapsing, gun-toting, player and stunningly realistic Battlefield 3. In our brief time with Troedsson, we chatted about the BattleLog, Rivalries with other titles, Frostbite Engine 3, and why Battlefield 3 had to wait until now.

What was the reasoning behind now being the right time to go back to that style of gameplay? So now we have the Frostbite 2 engine which allows us to do so many more things — especially on PC, that was one of the stars that just — click — it came into place. The second one was probably what the team wanted to do themselves. After Bad Company 1 and 2 which both had a bit of a slapstick humour — a slightly goofy feeling to it — the team really felt that they wanted to build something a lot more authentic; the word authentic is very important to us.

That was aligned with what Battlefield 2 actually was — a modern shooter with a much more authentic tone. And also I would say that perhaps the experience of the team is at the right place. Was it ever difficult coming back to this and doing it on the console as well?

EA Aware of BF3 Code Problems on PC gamers are also reporting multiple issues with Battlelog which are preventing them Fall Guys matchmaking switched off for at least two hours as players overwhelm the servers.

Battlefield 3 launched to critical praise from game journalists, but as with most online-based games, once the public jumped into the fray several issues surfaced. EA’s servers had trouble accommodating the heavy demand, and many people decried the new web-based Battlelog service. Now that the game’s been patched a couple times, we checked in to see how the game is performing. Battlefield 3 debuted at the number three spot on the Xbox Live activity report issued by Major Nelson each week.

It rose to the number two spot the following week, but has since dropped into the fourth slot behind Modern Warfare 3, Black Ops, and Skyrim. Battlefield games rarely have major balancing issues, and many of the more annoying issues that plagued other entries like chopper circle strafing in Bad Company 2 are resolved in this iteration. One issue that bares mentioning, however, is mortar spamming. The only way to take them out is to counter-mortar, but in hardcore matches the overzealous spamming results in way too many deaths.

Overall the map selection feels like a step back from previous Battlefield games, mostly because DICE is trying to appeal to both its traditional fan base and new players more accustomed to playing close-quarters battles. The Battlefield 3 maps offer a variety of both, but far too many of them have control points positioned too closely together in conquest mode.

EA won’t charge for Battlelog with Battlefield 3

A recently leaked image of the Battlefield 3 Battlelog has confirmed some new information regarding matchmaking. No wait This is great but what does it mean by in-game browser for consoles? I don’t want it to be like a popup or something. Will it be fully integrated into BF3? If this is legit, I’m liking it.

Battlefield 3 is going to have an in-game server browser on the console versions while the PC version will have Battlelog, what’s Battlelog? console version gets matchmaking similar to that of Battlefield Bad Company 2 on.

It would be difficult to overstate the degree of excitement around the impending release of Battlefield 3. There is a lot to be excited about. BF3’s levels are designed on an unprecedented epic scale, with areas big enough to include infantry, ground vehicles, and aircraft, and battles between 24 players on PS3 and Xbox , and 64 on Windows PC.

They are built in the amazing new Frostbite Engine 2, which allows game-changing environment destruction, so the battlefield always feels alive and dynamic. Despite the impressive graphics and physics, one of Battlefield 3’s most noteworthy features is its social network. But despite all of these amazing technological advancements, Lars Gustavsson is most excited about BF3’s social aspects. Gustavsson is creative director at DICE and the multi-player designer for their upcoming blockbuster.

The new social platform has Gustavsson very excited, and he talked me through how its features will be used. A few hours later, I’ll go home, connect with that same group, and then enter a multi-player game together. Battlelog is persistent and seamless, allowing players to create “platoons”, similar to the clans or guilds of other multi-player games.

These platoons can play together over a long period, building up their own statistics and rankings, in a Facebook-like social interface across multiple platforms, including mobile devices. It also includes post-match voice and text chat with everybody who just played, enemies and friends alike, allowing players to discuss the game while browsing detailed match telemetry. Gustavsson also explained that Battlelog will incorporate robust matchmaking, global leaderboards in a dizzying number of fields, and custom leaderboards among just your friends.

Having had some hands-on time with BF3 at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in June, I have had first-hand experience of the sheer scale and complexity of its multi-player maps.
